Oktoberfest Star Party

It was a cold October evening in Union Parish where a handful of hearty stargazers gathered to get some pics of Mars as it made its closest approach to Earth.  Unfortunately, the brightness of the planet made photography with the SBIG camera impossible.  So we decided to get some photos of other objects.  The evening marked the first attempt at colorized astrophotography with the SBIG camera.

Attendees enjoyed an evening of music and grilled sausage and bratworst along with a couple of sauerkraut dishes topped off with German chocolate cake.  Delicious!  Unfortunately, the starparty was also the first day of deer season.  Several vehicles drove by kicking up dust and shining headlights.  But it wasn't too bad.  Below are photos from the gathering.
